Little Cubs Field to be Built in Read Park, Freeport
Wrigley Field is coming to Freeport! Or at least a version of it that will fit nicely into a corner of Read Park. Denny Garkey, president of the Build Little Cubs Field board, announced that the project has been included in the Read Park master plan that was completed in spring 2005. The target opening date is April 28, 2008 with Dutchie Caray, widow of legendary Chicago Cubs broadcaster Harry Caray, meeting and greeting fans at 5:00 p.m. She will also be leading the crowd in song to "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" at the bottom of the third inning of the 6:00 P.M. Pee Wee league game.
